What is artificial intelligence?
If we look at the definition of artificial intelligence, AI in short, it means the following; “devices that respond to data or impulses from their environment and make independent decisions based on that. So AI is not about computing power, but about the ability to learn and make decisions independently.”
The definition already brings us a little closer to practical applications. Still, a look at the history of the technology followed by some examples will make it much easier to understand. The artificial intelligence we know today has its origins in philosophers who started discussing how the human brain works. They suggested that our choices can be brought back to mathematical figures and formulas. This train of thought eventually led a group of scientists to work on an electronic brain. This all happened in the year 1940 when the term artificial intelligence didn’t exist yet, so it was just an experiment to create an electronic variant of the human brain. When research into the technology took off fifteen years later, the scientists found that their task became a lot more complicated than previously thought. Due to a lack of computing power and financial resources, development came to a halt for years until several technological revolutions took place.
Many factors form the driving force behind the current boom of artificial intelligence developments. As computers became more powerful, smarter, and easier to use, more and more data was created. Today, this data is used to automate artificial intelligence learning known as ‘machine learning’ or ‘deep learning.’ Large amounts of data are processed and analyzed utilizing written pieces of code. The analyses that are made are ultimately how artificial intelligence can make its own decisions and thus learn independently based on these calculations. What happens behind the scenes of AI is very complicated, but looking at the applications it is used for today makes it a lot easier to understand.
Where is artificial intelligence used in our daily lives?
Since governments and large corporations have invested heavily in developing artificial intelligence in recent years, it has become part of our daily lives. Some of the practical applications of artificial intelligence that you encounter every day;
Unlocking your phone with face ID
You won’t find it on every phone yet, but most new phones are now unlocked using your face. Just looking at your phone’s screen gives the device a chance to let the internal AI do its job. More than 30,000 invisible digital dots are placed on your face to analyze your current face and compare it with the photo you have set as the phone owner. If it matches, your phone will be unlocked by the AI.
The media has changed considerably over the past decade. Before, it was only television, radio, and newspapers; nowadays, social media is where most news and updates are shared. The mechanisms behind applications such as Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube are constantly analyzing and comparing your data. Using artificial intelligence, the application can tailor your news overview to fulfill your wishes and needs as much as possible. Digital voice assistance
iPhone’s and Android phones now have a standard feature to control your device using your voice. More recently, ‘smart speakers’ from Google and Amazon offer this same feature. What can I use artificial intelligence for?
Artificial intelligence is a term that has a very frightening meaning for some. The consequences of an artificial brain that is in many cases smarter than that of humans can be catastrophic. Suppose this artificial brain soon finds that humans are not necessary any; what happens then? These kinds of thoughts are often unfounded. To counter these thoughts, we want to show some more applications of artificial intelligence.

We have already given this example, but artificial intelligence can work as a personal assistant very well. If you use an application like Lyra or something like that, it learns from every bit of data it gets. The application uses all new information to make suggestions for, for example;
